 | Need a Source for Recycling Ragged Goods?
Check Out SMART, the Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association at www.smartasn.org |
According to the EPA, almost 13 million tons of textile waste are generated annually in the U.S. Of that amount, only 15% is recovered for reuse or recycling. Enter SMART, the Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association.
Given the "Green" focus throughout society these days, one might think the association was formed in response to this cultural shift. But no, the association was founded in 1932!
SMART is composed of more than 150 companies based in North and South America, Europe, and Pacific Rim countries. Member companies reduce solid waste by reclaiming, converting, and recycling textiles and secondary materials. If you are looking for a new or additional resource for recycling ragged textiles or paper and plastic from your plant, check out the SMART website at www.smartasn.org.
If you are unable to find a local resource on the SMART website, contact your State Department of Environmental Quality/Department of Environmental Protection (DEQ/DEP). Every state has one, and it offers information on the best way to recycle or dispose of goods, as well as providing confirmation of local regulations and policies that may affect your business.
