ARTA Committees

Each new year, members are invited to join or affirm their participation in committees. We’re currently recruiting for the Education Conference Task Force, the Microfiber LCA, the Economic Impact, and the Cleanroom committees.

Marketing Committee — oversees ARTA’s marketing programs and produces sales and marketing materials that help the industry make the case for reusable textiles.

Membership and Nomination Committee — oversees new member outreach, as well as the nomination process for ARTA elections, which occur annually.

Education Conference / Clean Show Task Force — plans ARTA’s educational programs, which are offered through a biennial Education Conference or the biennial Clean Show. In 2023 we are planning our next Education Conference, to be held April 17-19, 2024 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina.

Webinar Committee — oversees ARTA webinars on a as-needed basis.

Economic Impact Committee — We’re currently recruiting for the committee overseeing ARTA’s groundbreaking economic impact studies.

Environmental Clarity published the first of these Economic Impact Studies on cleanroom coveralls in 2021, in the peer-reviewed PDA Journal of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology. The study was the first such report on cleanroom garments.

Now ARTA is conducting similar research focusing on the cost benefits of reusable isolation gowns, surgical gowns, incontinence pads, and microfiber cleaning cloths and flat mops versus their disposable counterparts. These studies are supported by ARTA dues.

We’ll share the results to date from our economic impact studies in the Nov. 22 Speakers Series presentation by Dr. Michael Overcash, cofounder and director of research of Environmental Clarity.

Microfiber LCA Committee — ARTA is recruiting members for the committee overseeing its Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) of two common environmental services products— medical grade microfiber cleaning cloths and flat mops.  These LCAs will compare the cradle-to-grave impact of reusable versus their disposable counterparts.

The committee will provide important data and feedback for researchers, as well as help fund the study. We’ll share the results on Dec. 6 in the Speakers Series presentation by Environmental Clarity’s Director of Research Michael Overcash. The study will include the following components:

  • The wiper and mop and their  materials and construction
  • Laundry process (at CDC guidelines) for reusables products with different materials and construction
  • Chemicals for disinfection and for laundry processing
  • Primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging
  • Cradle-to-product supply chains for the materials used
  • End-of-life scenarios

This project has been set up with a clear study hypothesis and conclusions, linked to the life cycle literature to assure a quality, peer-reviewed paper can be produced and published. The intended audience will be nurses, physicians, healthcare purchasing personnel, and healthcare administrators.

This work is committee-sponsored (each member pays a share of the cost of the LCA). ARTA pays its share and provides coordination of work.

Cleanroom Committee — works to promote reusable cleanroom garments and products to the cleanroom industry. It oversaw the work on ARTA’s first LCA on cleanroom coveralls and  completed the first Economic Impact Study on cleanroom garments.

Membership on ARTA committees is limited to members. Your support helps ARTA create greater awareness and appreciation for reusable textiles. To get involved in any of these activities, please call or send an email to hello@ARTA1.com
